Cornwall’s two Grass Track clubs host an Easter weekend of race action which will see some of the country’s top racers coming to Cornwall.
The highlight of the weekend is on Sunday when the Mid Cornwall Premier Club host the British Masters Qualifier in association with Kellys Ice Cream at Lower Boscarne Farm, Nanstallon. The meeting, the only route for riders to qualify for this year’s Masters Championship, will feature 32 500cc Solos and 24 1000cc Sidecars so competition is expected to be close throughout the day.
Heading the Solo entry is the current in form rider and Scunthorpe speedway star David Howe. Plymouth Devils skipper Mark Simmonds is joined by other locals riders Josh Dingle, Simon Phillips and Jason Prynne in the line up. Several names familiar to local grass track fans include Charlie Sanders, Tim Curnock, Rod Melksham, Dan Berwick, John Weeks, Scott Creswell and Jody Hodgson. From the entry of 32 riders 16 will go forward to the Masters Championship later in the season.

The 1000cc Sidecars features a strong line up of crews including two former Masters Champions, 3 times winner Gary Jackson and 2007 winner Colin Blackbourn and an ex British Sidecar Speedway title holder locally based Matt Tyrrell. Other local crews competing include 2009 qualifier winner Richard Thomas & Jason Barry, Andy Gribble & Mark Truscott, Joe Trewin & Duncan Patton, Phil Syms & Gareth Bemister & James Goudge & Dave Goudge. With only 11 places up for grabs in the Masters championship race action is sure to be close and competitive.

Racing gets under way at 1pm, admission is £10 for Adults, £8 for Concessions and children under 14 free.
Either side of the Masters Qualifier on Sunday Cornwall Solo Grass Track Club will hold club championship meetings at the same venue.
On Saturday the stars of tomorrow take to the track with a youth only meeting. Practice starts at 1200 with racing from 1300. Admission is free for this particular meeting.
On Easter Monday race action will be for Club Championship points. A competitive entry has been received in the Solo and Sidecar classes including a rare Cornish outing for the LH sidecars.
The Solo Open entry sees locals Mark Simmonds, Josh Dingle, Adrian Rowe and Kevin Williams up against a field including Anthony Queripel from Guernsey who has shown good form on previous visits to Cornwall, Newport’s Nick Mallett and Plymouth based Paul Whitelam Jnr who has a busy day as he is also acting as passenger in the 1000cc sidecars. Rounding off the Solo classes an entry of up to 350cc and Uprights/Pre 75’s has been received.
The Right Hand Sidecar line up promises an action packed day with reigning Masters Champion Mark Cossar leading the entry. One time locally based Myles Simmons makes the trip from Kent, Rod Winterburn and Paul Whitelam will provide a stern test for the local drivers entered including Andrew Gribble, Phil Syms, James Goudge, Joseph Sturtridge and Joe Trewin. Terry Pearn, Simon Heal, Clive Stoneman, John Thorpe and Pete Shaw complete the line up.
A full grid of 6 Left Hand sidecars will contest 5 races through the day. The youth classes will enjoy four rides each during the day in a race program which runs to 50 races.
